Summer Flowers

I painted the flowers over 3 very hot days in July 2008. References to holidays hint at the never ending summers we enjoyed as children.. and the flowers always seemed so much bigger then! The ‘Summer flowers' are the flower everyone would like to grow.. exotic, beautiful and special.. a whole garden in themselves, but with less upkeep required! The butterflies are rare, depicted on collectors cards, themselves very desirable.
Latin text adds to the other-worldly, ‘magical' feel to the pieces. It's funny how Latin holds so much more appeal these days than it did in the dusty classroom, last lesson on a Tuesday.
